NYC Meets COVID-19

New York City has become one of the major epicenters of COVID-19 infections in the world with more than 18,000 fatalities.

I love New York.

It is full of multiplicity, vitality, and irresistible personality. I remember my first trip to the Apple City. It was the summer before my senior year in high school. It gave me the taste for more culture and more experiences. My latest visit to New York was New Years' Eve 2018. It was cold, raining, crowded but completely worth it.

I started 2019 on Park Avenue with my kiddos and our little chihuahua. It made me feel like anything was possible for the rest of the year.

So when COVID-19 started ripping through one of my favorite cities, it was surreal. My condolences go out to the entire city, the first responders, and the families and friends of those whose lives were cut short by COVID.

How did this happen?

Mount Siani issues a press release regarding a COVID origin study in New York City.

“New York City’s first confirmed COVID-19 cases are from primarily European and United States sources, according to the first molecular epidemiology study of SARS-CoV-2.”

The study continues to report:

"Only one of the cases studied was infected with a virus that was a clear candidate for introduction from Asia, and that virus is most closely related to viral isolates from Seattle, Washington. The study also suggests that the virus was likely circulating as early as late-January 2020 in the New York City area.”

What happens when NYC meets COVID-19?

New York sidewalks that are typically full of life became desolate. The streets usually full of crazy driving taxi drivers, and overpriced pedicabs were still.

We could see the void through pictures and video captures, but what was going on within?

Devastation, death, uncertainty, and fear was in full supply. But there was also FIGHT because that’s what  New Yorkers do.

My Perspective

My compassion goes out to all. New Yorkers are often portrayed as relentlessly resilient, but they are human. If COVID=19 running through NYC could reveal anything; it should be the fact that we are all HUMAN. We bleed red when cut. We are vulnerable and dependent on one another.

I 💓you New York.
